PRESS RELEASE AT 15:39 - 22nd NOVEMBER 2017 – LAOIS COUNTY COUNCIL

Laois County Council wish to advise that due to the recent heavy rainfall the N80 is now closed as is many of the adjoining local roads including Ballyfin to Mountmellick Road, Irishtown, Wolfe Tone Street, Manor Lane are all impassible.

Currently 20 families in Mountmellick are being evacuated from their homes as a result of the flooding. Vehicular traffic should avoid the town for the moment.

Extreme caution to be taken in the Mountmellick area due to flooding and avoided where possible .

Clonaslee area, caution is advised. Alternative routes to be taken if possible.

Roads crews, Civil Defence crews and Fire Service crews are in attendance.

Please be advised if you require the assistance of the emergency services dial 999.

Anyone requiring assistance from the emergency services can go direct to the Civil Defense premises on the Bay Rd. Mountmellick where the emergency response is being co-ordinated.
